Grading System

  CCBC uses the "A" through "F" grading system. Included in the criteria for grading is attendance, reading assignments, homework, tests, and papers.

Letter Grade Percentage Range Grade Points
A 95-100... 4.0
A- 90-94 3.67
B+ 88-89 3.33
B 84-87 3.0
B- 80-83 2.67
C+ 78-79 2.33
C 74-77 2.0
C- 70-73 1.67
*Anything below a C- cannot be credited toward graduation
or a degree, it is considered failing.
D+ 68-69 ...1.33
D 64-67 1.0
D- 60-63 0.67
F Below 60 0.0

I= incomplete; Seldom given, only when severe illness or family problems prevent the student from finishing the semester.

W = withdrawal; Given the first two to six weeks of school for offically withdrawing from a class, given after the first six weeks for medical or emergency purposes only. W does not affect the Student's GPA.

UW = unoffical withdrawal; Given when a student registers but discontinues class attendance without approval. UW is calculated the same as an F for GPA purposes.

WP = withdrawal pass; Given when a student officially withdraws from a Pass/Fail class with a currently passing grade.

WF = withdrawal fail; Given when a student officially withdraws from any class after the first six weeks of the term.

AU = audit; Given to students completing a course in which they registered as an audit student. Audit students are required to attend class at least 70% of the time, no homework is required. Credit is not earned in an audited class.

P = pass; Given to student who receive higher than an F in a course in which they registered on a Pass/Fail basis.
